How To Make Ginger Peach Iced Tea

How To Make Ginger Peach Syrup From Scratch

To make the ginger peach syrup from scratch, you will need a small saucepan, potato masher, diced fresh peaches, grated ginger, sugar, and water. Combine all the ingredients in the saucepan and cook for about 10 minutes or just until you have a thicker consistency and very soft peaches. Use the potato masher to break down the peaches, creating a chunky thick sauce like a jam or marmalade. You can transfer the cooked syrup to a bowl and set aside until ready to use.

How To Assemble Ginger Peach Iced Tea

Once your black tea and ginger peach syrup are ready and cooled down, you can begin to assemble your iced tea. Depending on the size of your glass and preferred sweetness, add the ginger peach syrup at the bottom of the glass. Fill the glass with ice cubes and pour in the black tea. You can garnish it with peach slices and some fresh mint. Serve and enjoy!

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Black Tea - a classic base for iced teas for its bold, rich, and dark flavor. Although it’s more convenient to use tea bags, you can also use loose tea for this recipe.
  • Yellow Peaches - a great balance of sweet and tarty flavor that is great for flavoring teas, making jams, salad toppings, and more. Compared with white peaches, the yellow peach variety has a more “peachy” taste and is brighter with its more acidic flavor.
  • Granulated Sugar - acts not just as a sweetener but also helps make the consistency of the syrup thicker. You can easily substitute granulated sugar with honey.
  • Fresh Ginger - you can choose to use a grated fresh ginger or ginger paste for this iced tea recipe. Ginger, aside from its health benefits, gives a refreshing and bright spicy lift to this perfect summer drink.

Tips & Suggestions

  • Cold brew tea - maybe longer to make compared with just the usual hot brew method but cold brew tea has a more mellow flavor and helps lessen the tannins making it less bitter. You can make a cold brew tea just like making a cold brew coffee. Just steep the tea bags or loose tea leaves overnight or at least 6 hours in the fridge and you’ll be delighted with a fresh batch of cold brew tea.
  • Other fruit varieties - you can use other fruits for this recipe. You can try some berries, pineapple, passionfruit, mango, apricots, and so many more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use green tea for this recipe?

Absolutely! You can use any of your favorite teas. The taste may change a little depending on the type of tea you choose to use but you can use green tea, earl grey, white tea, or even red tea.

How long does the ginger peach syrup keep?

The homemade ginger peach syrup can last up to a month in the fridge. Cool it down properly before storing it in an airtight container. You can also use the leftover syrup as a topping for pancakes or basically just like a fruit jam.
