How To Make Grilled Brie with Balsamic Strawberries

How To Prepare The Honey Balsamic Strawberries

This appetizer recipe is super easy to make; it’s just under 20 minutes! Begin with cleaning your fresh strawberries and cutting them into small cubes. Then cut your fresh basil into chiffonade or thin strips. You can directly mix in the honey balsamic dressing, but making it in a separate bowl can make it easier to adjust the seasoning. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, balsamic vinegar, and ground pepper. Don't forget to give it a quick taste before pouring it into the strawberry mixture. Toss the honey balsamic dressing with the strawberries and basil until everything is thoroughly coated and set aside until ready to assemble.

How To Assemble Grilled Brie with Balsamic Strawberries

You can prepare the brie cheese by grilling it or even baking it with a drizzle of olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. We recommend using a grill pan or a griller for extra smokiness. Grill each side for about 2-3 minutes or just when you get excellent grill marks and softy, melty inside. To serve, top the warm grilled brie with some of the strawberry balsamic mix and serve it with bread.

Ingredients & Substitutions

  • Brie Cheese - soft, creamy, and slightly spicy cheese that's great in different applications. Grilled or oven-baked brie also gives great theatrics since it pours out like lava when cut into it, making it an extra crowd-pleasing appetizer.
  • Fresh Strawberries - always choose ripe strawberries, bright red, and plump. The sweetness of strawberries will complement the balsamic vinegar and the smokiness of grilled brie.
  • Fresh Basil Leaves - a great component for a burst of herby, peppery, and vibrant flavor for this delicious and creamy appetizer.
  • Balsamic Vinegar - rich in flavor with some wood undertones and slight smokiness sweet vinegar.
  • Honey - packed with nutrients and acts as a sweetener and helps balance the flavor of balsamic dressing.

Tips & Suggestions

  • You can always try other fruits with this grilled brie recipe. Try blueberries, pears, apples, or even serve it with some almonds, pecans, or pistachios.
  • If you have some leftovers, you can make a grilled cheese sandwich out of it for next day’s snack or quick breakfast.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I eat the rind of the brie cheese?

Yes, although it will have a bit of chew, you can definitely eat it. It will also have the smokiest flavor with this grilled brie recipe.

What is the difference between brie and camembert?

They are both soft cheeses and almost have a similar flavor. Brie is just creamier and milder in taste, whereas camembert has a deeper taste and aroma. When baked or grilled, brie can also hold its structure better than camembert.

step 1
Remove the tops from the Fresh Strawberries (1 1/2 cups) and roughly chop. Stack the Fresh Basil Leaves (10), roll them up, and thinly slice. Place both in a medium bowl.
step 2
Add the Balsamic Vinegar (2 Tbsp), Honey (1 Tbsp), and Freshly Ground Black Pepper (1/4 tsp). Toss to coat the strawberries in the glaze. Set aside.
step 3
Brush the Brie Cheese Round (1) with Olive Oil (1 tsp) and sprinkle with Sea Salt (1/4 tsp).
step 4
Heat up your grill or grill pan to high heat. Once hot, add the brie. Grill for 2-3 minutes per side, until the beautiful char marks are visible and the cheese seems melted on the inside. Flip carefully so you don’t break it open.
